CAPIVARI S’OFFRE UN UPDATE EN OR

Objet d’offres d’achats régulières, Capivari (Yeats) a remporté le Prix Renaud du Vivier (Gr1), la Grande Course de Haies des 4ans, ce dimanche à Auteuil. Ce succès de prestige, coup de poker réussi pour ce poulain en provenance des gros handicaps, tombe à pic. En effet, le poulain de Xavier Kepa et José Bruneau de la Salle doit passer sur le ring d’Arqana lors de la vente d’automne, ce lundi à Deauville (lot 211). Difficile de se présenter avec un meilleur update. Lauréat d’un gros handicap et placé à quatre reprises dans cette catégorie, Capivari venait de bien courir dans le Prix Pierre de Lassus (Gr3) en se classant troisième. Mais il est parti à une cote de 12/1. Le grand favori, Device (Poliglote), est tombé à l’avant-dernière haie, laissant la voie libre à Capivari, à l’irlandais Footpad (Creachadoir) et à l’anglais Adrien du Pont (Califet). Ces trois concurrents faisaient partie du groupe de cinq chevaux à s’être détachés dans le tournant final. Sur le plat, Capivari et Footpad ont pris l’ascendant sur Adrien du Pont. Après une lutte acharnée, Capivari a conservé une tête d’avance sur Footpad. Adrien du Pont a conclu troisième. Place qu’il a conservée après enquête et réclamation.
Le premier Gr1 de Xavier Kepa.
Restaurateur de son état, Xavier Kepa a des chevaux depuis plusieurs années, notamment chez François-Marie Cottin, entraîneur de Capivari. Ce dimanche, il a signé sa première victoire au niveau Gr1. Il nous a dit : « Je ne suis pas du tout issu d’une famille des courses mais j’aime les chevaux, le sport hippique et la compétition. J’ai des chevaux depuis une petite dizaine d’années. J’ai eu la chance de connaître François-Marie Cottin via des amis. Ce sont des gens extraordinaires avec qui on travaille en confiance, ce qui est très important. J’ai choisi l’obstacle car ce sont des courses compliquées et j’aime la complexité. Il ne faut pas comparer les jockeys d’obstacle aux autres, mais ce sont des sportifs de très haut niveau. On ne le dit pas assez, ils risquent leur vie à chaque course. Actuellement, j’ai une petite dizaine de chevaux. Je trouve que c’est un bon nombre, je me fais plaisir. Aujourd’hui, c’est mon premier Gr1, c’est beaucoup d’émotions. »
Capivari, un vrai haltérophile.
Capivari n’a cessé de progresser depuis ses premiers pas en compétition durant le meeting de Cagnes-sur-Mer. Une sortie à Auteuil a suffi pour qu’il prenne ses marques et qu’il s’impose dans le Prix Claude Cohen. Il a ensuite été un véritable métronome dans les gros handicaps où il a toujours fait l’arrivée. Le cheval a ensuite abordé le top-niveau. Son entraîneur, François-Marie Cottin, nous a déclaré : « Je suis ravi. Il a été très lutteur. Il a très bien sauté et s’est bien adapté au terrain, comme je pouvais le penser au préalable. Je l’ai toujours bien aimé. Avant le coup, j’aurais été content d’être dans les cinq premiers. C’était mon but. Je suis ravi pour ses propriétaires. »
L’avenir de Footpad passe par le steeple.
Contrairement au lauréat, Footpad effectuait sa réapparition directement dans le Gr1. Dans ces conditions, sa deuxième place à une tête du vainqueur est très bonne. Représentant de Willie Mullins, Harold Kirk nous a dit : « Il court vraiment très bien, d’autant plus que c’était une rentrée. C’est une très bonne course. Il a bataillé jusqu’au passage du poteau et le gagnant est plus fit que lui, il a plus de courses dans les jambes cette saison. Footpad va devenir un très bon steeple-chaser à l’avenir. Cette saison, il va rester sur les haies. Nous allons essayer de lui trouver des courses et il devrait aller sur plus long. Il va très bien dans le lourd et je dirais qu’il aime vraiment les pistes souples. Le terrain était un peu trop rapide pour lui à Cheltenham. Il va beaucoup progresser sur cette course. »
Adrien du Pont subit son allant.
Allant en début de parcours, Adrien du Pont n’en a pas moins gardé la troisième place, après avoir donné l’impression de pouvoir gagner au moment de la chute de Device. Son jockey, Nick Scholfield, nous a déclaré : « Je sais qu’il a gagné un Gr1 mais cette performance n’est pas loin d’être la meilleure de sa carrière. Il va dans le lourd et a tenu jusqu’au bout. Il a fait une course fantastique. »
Grand favori, Device est donc tombé à l’avant-dernière haie, alors qu’il allait facilement, en dépit de quelques fautes en face. Gêné dans le Prix Cambacérès (Gr1) et absent pour un souci de santé dans le Prix Alain du Breil (Gr1), il a été victime d’un nouveau coup du sort dans un Gr1. Mais au vu de sa classe, il remportera un jour une épreuve de ce niveau. Quant à son jockey, James Reveley, il a été transporté à l’hôpital Ambroise Paré avec une suspicion de fracture du pied.

Élevé par la marquise de Moratalla, Capivari est un fils de Yeats, étalon à Coolmore, et de Plique à Jour (Hernando), lauréat de trois courses sur les haies et une en plat. Il est le premier vainqueur de son père dans un Gr1. Sa mère, Plique à Jour, a donné cinq vainqueurs. Capivari est son meilleur produit. Celui-ci est un neveu de Farouge (Croco Rouge), gagnant de Gr3 en Scandinavie.
