LE GUERRIER AL KAZEEM EST DE RETOUR

Guerrier et gentleman sont les deux qualificatifs qu’utilise Roger Charlton pour parler d’Al Kazeem (Dubawi). Le fils de Dubawi était en très bel état pour sa rentrée et visiblement prêt à en découdre. Il s’est très bien élancé de sa stalle mais n’a pas pris la tête de la course. C’est Celtic Rock (Rock of Gibraltar) qui a animé, comme il aime le faire. Al Kazeem a évolué en épaisseur mais près de la tête. Dans la ligne droite, il s’est montré courageux jusqu’au bout pour contenir Affaire Solitaire (Danehill Dancer), vu à mi-peloton. Fate (Teofilo) a patienté. Elle est restée le long de la corde et, lorsque l’ouverture s’est créée, elle a tracé une excellente fin de course comme elle en a l’habitude, échouant de peu pour un meilleur classement.

 

Toujours là malgré les coups durs

Triple gagnant de Gr1, Al Kazeem était le cheval de classe du lot. En 2013, il avait battu Camelot (Montjeu) dans le Tattersalls Gold Cup (Gr1), avant de s’imposer devant un autre guerrier, Mukhadram (Shamardal) dans les Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Gr1). Il s’était ensuite imposé dans les Coral Eclipse (Gr1) devant Declaration of War (War Front). Al Kazeem fait partie depuis 2013 des meilleurs chevaux d’âge britanniques. Il avait d’ailleurs conclu sa saison 2014 par une deuxième place dans les QIPCO Champion Stakes (Gr1), battu d’un quart de longueur par Noble Mission (Galileo). Pourtant, sa carrière fut tout sauf un long fleuve tranquille, entre une blessure grave et une courte carrière d’étalon infructueuse. « Je suis tellement fier de ce cheval, a déclaré Roger Charlton. C’est un gentleman. Il donne toujours le meilleur de lui-même. On peut le voir pointer les oreilles à la fin de la course. C’est incroyable, quand on pense à ce par quoi il est passé : il s’est fracturé le pelvis, est allé au haras et il revient. Il est toujours à son meilleur niveau. C’est génial. Il est très droit, ne pose jamais de problème. À l’écurie, lorsqu’il voit passer les pouliches, il ne bronche pas. C’est assez incroyable d’avoir un cheval comme celuilà : il aurait pu être vendu il y a longtemps et il devrait être au haras. J’ai de la chance de l’avoir avec moi. »

Encore des progrès pour Al Kazeem en vue du Prix Ganay

Déjà en bel état au rond, Al Kazeem avait effectué un galop public à Kempton pour se préparer en vue de Longchamp. Pour Roger Charlton, c’est même un fait assez inhabituel que d’être de retour aux courses si tôt dans l’année. Al Kazeem était prêt, mais a encore des progrès à faire, ne serait-ce que physiquement. L’entraîneur a ajouté : « Pour nous, c’est une rentrée assez avancée. En Angleterre, le printemps arrive plus tard qu’en France. Avoir un partant et un gagnant à cette époque de l’année, c’est assez inhabituel ! Normalement, c’est plus en mai que nous nous lançons vraiment. Il pèse d’ailleurs 18 kilos de plus que lors de sa tentative dans l’“Arc”. Nous espérons donc qu’il a encore une marge de progression. J’aimerais revenir et tenter le Prix Ganay. Il a sa forme pour lui. J’ai dit à Ryan Moore de faire ce qu’il voulait aujourd’hui, quitte à prendre la tête s’il le désirait. Ryan m’a dit qu’il n’avait rien fait de particulier. Dans la ligne droite, j’ai pensé qu’il allait se fatiguer et que les autres allaient le passer, mais il s’est imposé. »

Un nouveau défi avec le Prix Ganay

 

 

Al Kazeem se distingue aussi par sa capacité à s’adapter à tous les terrains. Dans le Prix Ganay, il sera prêt à en découdre même si, comme le rappelle Roger Charlton, il aura à affronter une belle opposition. « Il va prendre part au Prix Ganay. Ensuite, cela dépend. Peut-être le Prix d’Ispahan qui arrive trois semaines plus tard, ou alors il pourrait aller vers le Tattersalls Gold Cup. Ce sera une de ces deux courses si tout va bien. Mais il y aura une tout autre opposition : des chevaux venant de Meydan, ou encore Cirrus des Aigles (Even Top) qui est un très bon cheval… Et d’autres encore. Ce ne sera pas la même chose qu’aujourd’hui. » Cirrus des Aigles devrait en effet effectuer son retour dans le Prix Ganay. Ectot (Hurricane Run) pourrait aussi être de la partie. Quant au Tattersalls Gold Cup, c’est le prochain objectif de The Grey Gatsby (Mastercrafstman), deuxième du Dubai Turf (Gr1) pour sa rentrée. Que ce soit en France ou en Irlande, il y aura de l’opposition. Roger Charlton a ajouté : « C’est assez collant aujourd’hui. Mais il a déjà couru à Royal Ascot en terrain rapide, ou lourd comme dans les Champion Stakes l’an dernier. On dit que les bons chevaux vont dans tous les terrains. Je pense qu’il est indifférent au terrain. »

Affaire Solitaire confirme

Gagnant du Prix Exbury (Gr3), Affaire Solitaire a confirmé ce lundi qu’il ne s’agissait pas que d’un coup d’éclat. Le pensionnaire de Patrick Khozian s’est à nouveau montré très dur, mais il est tombé sur un véritable roc. Il a en tout cas gagné son ticket pour les Grs1, comme nous l’a expliqué Patrick Khozian : « Le cheval court encore super ! Il est battu par un cheval de Gr1. J’avais demandé à Nicolas d’attendre aujourd’hui, et c’est comme ça qu’il est le mieux. En dernier lieu, il avait eu raison d’attaquer le premier, mais nous avions le sentiment qu’il avait un peu « volé » la course. Il va maintenant aller sur le Prix d’Ispahan. »

Fate fait impression

Fate possède une très belle pointe de vitesse et elle l’a à nouveau montré ce lundi. La pensionnaire d’Alain de Royer Dupré est la note de la course. Gagnante du Prix de Flore (Gr3), elle a les moyens de s’imposer à haut niveau à condition qu’elle trouve une piste bien assouplie. Son entraîneur nous a déclaré : « Fate finit très vite, elle pourra faire plus long. Elle effectue une bonne rentrée. Concernant la suite de son programme, nous ferons très attention au terrain car c’est une jument qui aime bien le terrain souple. Nous n’allons pas prendre de risque de l’abîmer. Nous nous concentrerons sur l’automne. » Alain de Royer Dupré présentait aussi Celtic Rock, lequel a craqué pour finir. Il nous a déclaré : « C’est trop dur pour lui. Nous allons redescendre de catégorie. »

Issu de Dubawi, Al Kazeem est le meilleur produit de sa mère, Kazeem (Darshaan). Cette dernière a aussi un yearling propre frère d’Al Kazeem, ainsi qu’un 2ans par Makfi. Kazeem est une propre sœur de Treasurer (Darshaan), placée de Groupes aux États-Unis. La troisième mère, Treasure Chest, a donné Diomeda, gagnante de Gr3 aux États-Unis. Il s’agit de la famille de Zanzibar, gagnante des Oaks d’Italie (Gr1), de Diamond Shoal, gagnant du Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, du Gran Premio di Milano et du Grosser Preis von Baden (Grs1), et de Glint of Gold, gagnant du Grand Prix de Paris, du Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, du Derby italien, du Gran Criterium de Milan ou encore du Grosser Preis von Baden (Grs1).
