C’est une pouliche « sur la montante » qui s’est imposée dans le Prix Chloé (Gr3), dimanche à Chantilly. War Flag (War Front) a réalisé quelque chose de difficile. Sur un terrain rapide, elle est parvenue à passer tout le peloton en revue, tout à l’extérieur, pour ajuster sûrement Chartreuse (Lawman) aux abords du poteau. Celle-ci a été montée tout près de la tête, mais en épaisseur, sans jamais vraiment pouvoir être cachée. Malgré cela, elle semblait partie pour le succès à mi-ligne droite, avant que War Flag ne fonde sur elle. Derrière elle, l’arrivée a été beaucoup plus disputée, et Magnolea (Acclamation), pour qui tout s’est ouvert à la corde, est venue priver de la troisième place l’anglaise Fireglow (Teofilo), laquelle a accompagné en tête Maquette (Tapit) durant le parcours.

Une pouliche en plein épanouissement.

War Flag a monté les échelons très progressivement, après avoir débuté en mars dernier. Elle venait de dominer l’estimée Deremah dans une course B disputée sur la P.S.F., avec l’aide de la décharge de Hugo Journiac. Elle avait une vraie marche à franchir, et a réussi avec un certain brio. Jean-Claude Rouget nous a expliqué : « War Flag est une bonne pouliche, tardive, que nous avons attendue. Elle était bien relax dans le parcours, mais elle a penché sur sa droite durant toute la ligne droite, car la piste doit être un peu trop ferme pour elle qui n’a pas de très bons aplombs. Son courage lui a permis de gagner. Elle est lauréate de Groupe, et comme elle est très bien née, c’est important. Le Prix de la Nonette est une possibilité. » 

Chartreuse proche de son Groupe.

Récemment victorieuse dans le Prix La Sorellina (L), Chartreuse n’a été battue que par un très bon cheval, sans avoir eu le meilleur des parcours. Freddy Head a analysé :« Chartreuse est une bonne pouliche. À mi-ligne droite, je la voyais s’imposer, puis War Flag est venue de l’arrière. C’est inouï ce que fait la gagnante ! Chartreuse n’a pas non plus la meilleure des places dans le parcours, étant en dehors. Elle a toujours montré de la qualité. À 2ans, elle avait été troisième malchanceuse dans le Prix des Réservoirs. Cette année, pour sa rentrée, elle a couru le Prix de la Grotte. Mais il y avait notamment Qemah et les chevaux n’étaient pas bien, malades, à cette époque de l’année. Chartreuse a ensuite facilement gagné sa Listed et elle montre ici qu’elle va remporter son Groupe. Nous allons réfléchir à son futur programme. Il y a des opportunités à Deauville, mais aussi en Angleterre, car je pense que cela ferait plaisir à ses propriétaires qu’elle coure outre-Manche. Chartreuse peut sans doute tenir 2.000m. Mais elle a avant tout besoin de train. »

Jean-Claude Rouget a aussi sellé la troisième, Magnolea, qui a parfois compromis ses chances en ratant son départ, ce qui ne fut pas le cas aujourd’hui. Il a déclaré : « Magnolea se comporte très bien. Elle avait moins de terrain à refaire que lors de ses sorties précédentes. Nous allons essayer de lui faire gagner son Groupe. »

Une sœur de Homebound.

Élevée par Joseph Allen, War Flag est une fille de Black Speck (Arch), mère d’une gagnante du Prix de Sandringham (Gr2), Homebound (Dixie Union). Black Speck a aussi produit Battle Paint (Tale of The Cat), deuxième du Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Gr1) et du Prix de Fontainebleau (Gr3), et les black types Lines of Battle (War Front) et Blue Exit (Pulpit).

La deuxième mère de War Flag est Andover Way (His Majesty), gagnante de Groupes aux États-Unis. Elle a notamment remporté le Top Flight Handicap (Gr1). Il s’agit de la famille de l’étalon Dynaformer (Roberto) mais aussi d’Offlee Wild et Sangrita. Cette dernière étant la mère de Silent Times qui compte les Champagne Stakes (Gr2) parmi ses victoires.
