UN PREMIER GROUPE MERITE POUR THE STOMP

Prince d’Enghien, The Stomp (Layman) avait remporté deux fois le Prix de Besançon (L) et s’était classé deuxième et troisième de la Grande Course de Haies (Gr3), sur le plateau de Soisy. Enghien fermé, son entourage l’a orienté vers le programme de Compiègne. En 2017, exceptionnellement, le Prix Romati (Gr3), le Grand Steeple du printemps local, se disputait sur 3.800m, une distance idéale pour The Stomp. Le sauteur de Jean-Claude Rouget en a profité pour enlever un premier Groupe plus que mérité, ce jeudi à Compiègne. Le tout alors qu’il découvrait la piste ! The Stomp a trouvé un nouveau terrain de jeu et il faudra être fort pour le déloger du sommet sur cette piste.

Jumelé pour François Nicolle (acte I). The Stomp a d’abord galopé à l’arrière-garde, alors que son compagnon d’entraînement, Golden Chop (Muhaymin), évoluait au centre du peloton. The Stomp s’est rapproché au dernier passage en face. Cadencé par son jockey, Thomas Gueguen, il a pris le meilleur à l’entrée de la ligne droite. Sur le plat, il s’est détaché pour laisser Golden Chop à six longueurs. Entraîneur de The Stomp et Golden Chop, François Nicolle a signé le jumelé de ce Gr3. Il nous a dit : « The Stomp est un cheval adorable. C’est un très bon cheval. Il a sauté un peu gros, il était surpris car cela allait un peu vite au début et il voulait prendre son temps. Son jockey était obligé de s’en occuper sur les obstacles et je pensais que ça n’allait pas le faire. Quant à Golden Chop, il court très, très bien. Ce sont les chevaux de cœur de l’écurie. Il n’y a que les filles qui les montent et bravo à elles ! Il est probable que The Stomp reparte en vacances car je ne vais pas l’amener à Auteuil. Et puis il reviendra à Compiègne cet automne. » Derrière les deux protégés de François Nicolle, c’est Corazones (Nidor) qui a conservé la troisième place devant Polipa (Poliglote), fautif à l’oxer de haies vives, et Brut Impérial (Le Fou), qui a fait une énorme faute à l’open ditch, manquant de faire tomber Ludovic Philipperon, puis au fence du tournant final.

Une histoire d’amitié et un loisir. Jean-Claude Rouget avait effectué le déplacement pour voir son The Stomp gagner son premier Groupe. Il nous a raconté : « Au mois d’avril de ses 2ans, il avait couru sur 1.000m. Je l’avais d’ailleurs acheté pour ça. Je l’avais mis chez Didier Guillemin et il avait été battu de peu à Longchamp sur 1.000m. C’est un cheval qui n’a jamais eu un problème de santé. C’est un loisir pour moi d’avoir des chevaux d’obstacle chez François. Il s’agit d’une histoire d’amitié. J’ai du mal à regarder les 3ans sauter, mais j’ai confiance en The Stomp. J’ai A Mi Manera qui est une bonne pouliche, et il y en aura sûrement d’autres. C’est complètement en dehors de mon activité d’entraîneur. On ne peut pas dire que ça me détend vraiment… (rires) En obstacle, le programme, c’est dramatique, il faut vraiment avoir un bon cheval. Dès que vous avez gagné une course et pris une place, le programme se ferme. On se plaint en plat, mais le programme est pire en obstacle. »

Un premier Groupe également pour Thomas Gueguen. Pilote de The Stomp, Thomas Gueguen a enlevé son premier Groupe grâce au fils de Layman, dans ce Prix Romati. Il nous a expliqué : « C’est une grande fierté pour moi de gagner mon premier Groupe pour mon patron et monsieur Rouget… C’est la première fois que je gagne à Compiègne sur le nouveau parcours. On paierait pour monter des chevaux comme The Stomp qui savent tout faire… » Osarus réalise aussi un joli doublé avec ce succès et celui de Hurkhan (Air Eminem) dans la Listed du jour.

Le meilleur élément de la famille. Élevé par le haras d’Haspel, The Stomp est le fils de Layman et de Version Originale (Poliglote), gagnante de trois courses en plat. The Stomp est le seul vainqueur de sa mère et il est le meilleur produit de la famille. Une famille dont le meilleur élément était auparavant Superstar Leo (College Chapel), deuxième du Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp (Gr1). Superstar Leo est la fille de Council Rock (General Assembly), la troisième mère de The Stomp.

Jean-Claude Rouget avait acheté The Stomp pour 8.000<€ aux ventes de yearlings Osarus, alors qu’il était présenté par le haras d’Haspel.
