Master Dino (Doctor Dino) a décroché la plus belle victoire de sa jeune carrière dans le Prix Georges de Talhouët-Roy (Gr2), dimanche à Auteuil. Le poulain, qui défend la casaque de Simon Munir, a créé une petite surprise sur une piste plus souple que prévu, ce qui lui a plu. Il avait montré de la qualité en remportant le Prix des Platanes et en terminant troisième du Prix Aguado (Gr3), mais pour s’imposer ce dimanche, il fallait que la course se déroule idéalement pour lui, ce qui a été le cas. Master Dino a pu attendre en quatrième position alors qu’Ajas (No Risk at All) donnait du rythme à l’épreuve. Entre les deux dernières haies, Master Dino est venu attaquer Ajas et son compagnon d’entraînement Tunis (Estejo). Ajas ayant fait une faute à l’ultime obstacle, la bataille pour la victoire s’est circonscrite entre Master Dino et Tunis. Dans les derniers mètres, le fils de Doctor Dino a donné un dernier coup de reins pour prendre une encolure d’avance sur Tunis, isolé côté corde.

Master Dino a gagné en maturité. Entraîneur des deux premiers, Guillaume Macaire nous a déclaré : « Master Dino avait gagné au printemps en appliquant la même tactique. En dernier lieu, ça n’a pas été la même physionomie de course. J’ai dit à James Reveley [son jockey, ndlr] de s’adapter. Je ne lui ai pas donné d’ordres car il sait comment est le cheval. Ajas a été devant en faisant du train, ce qui était bien. À cinq partants, on pouvait monter en attendant car on n’est pas loin de la tête. Master Dino a gagné en maturité avec l’expérience. Tunis s’est retrouvé très à gauche, il n’avait personne pour l’aider. S’il avait eu des chevaux à chasser à sa droite, ça l’aurait redressé un peu et ça n’aurait peut-être pas été pareil. Il y a eu du rythme, ce qui avantage peut-être moins Tunis que Master Dino. Quand Tunis avait gagné au printemps, c’était lice à zéro. Et lors du Prix Cambacérès (Gr1), qui aura lieu le dimanche, il y aura eu du passage à la corde le samedi, ce sera donc différent du premier semestre. » Master Dino est un poulain très doué, comme l’est Tunis, et tous deux seront de sérieux candidats à la Grande Course de Haies des 3ans. Leur compagnon d’entraînement Beau Gosse (Falco), récent lauréat du Prix Robert Lejeune (L), a fait une lourde chute à la haie du Pavillon, avant de se relever.

Ajas court en progrès. Ajas a mené à son rythme aux avant-postes et il allait encore très bien à la sortie du tournant final. Fautif à la dernière haie, il a dû laisser partir les deux premiers, se contentant de la troisième place. Son entraîneur, David Cottin, nous a dit : « C’est un bon poulain. Il a fait une grosse faute à la dernière haie, sans cela il aurait été plus proche des deux premiers. »

Le Congress pour Pirate du Rheu. Vainqueur du Prix Weather Permitting, Pirate du Rheu (Zizany) aurait pu participer au Prix Noiro. Mais son entourage l’a engagé dans ce Gr2 en haies pour le jauger face à cette opposition et il n’a pu finir que quatrième, à quatre longueurs d’Ajas. Son entraîneur, François Nicolle, a analysé en ces termes la performance du poulain du Passion Racing Club : « Il va aller sur le Prix Congress. Il a couru une fois en steeple pour un succès. J’ai préféré le courir dans ce Gr2 plutôt que dans le Prix Noiro pour le situer face à ces chevaux sur les haies. J’ai ma réponse : il est en-dessous d’eux sur les haies. »

Et encore Doctor Dino !

Master Dino est devenu dimanche le premier lauréat de Groupe en France sur les obstacles de son père, Doctor Dino (Muhtathir). L’étalon du haras du Mesnil a déjà produit Sceau Royal, vainqueur de Gr2 en Angleterre, et Ardina, gagnante de Listed sur les haies d’Enghien. Mais il s’illustre aussi en plat. Physiocrate s’est notamment classée deuxième du Prix de Diane Longines (Gr1) et Palinodie a gagné le Prix Charles Laffitte (L). Malgré une jumenterie numériquement réduite et en partie tournée vers l’obstacle, il a donné deux nouveaux black types en plat cette année, avec deux lauréates, la première, Golden Legend, du Prix Bertrand de Tarragon (Gr3) et la seconde, Style Icon, du Prix Charles Laffitte (L).

La famille d’une gagnante de Gr1 en plat. Coélevé par le Gaec de la Seguègne et Jean-Michel Campos, Master Dino est un fils de Doctor Dino, étalon au haras du Mesnil, qui traverse une période de forme exceptionnelle, et de Mind Master (Mizzen Mast), trois fois placée en six sorties en plat. C’est le frère de Mind Story (Diamon Green), gagnante de son maiden en plat, en province. Deuxième mère de Master Dino, Nimble Mind (Lyphard) a conclu troisième du Prix Vanteaux (Gr3). Il s’agit de la famille de Marketing Mix (Medaglia d’Oro), gagnante de deux Grs1 aux États-Unis.
