PORTO POLLO RENVERSE LA HIÉRARCHIE

La plupart des aficionados de l’obstacle pensaient que la hiérarchie était quelque peu établie chez les poulains de 3ans. Pic d’Orhy (Turgeon) semblait être le leader incontesté de sa génération, tant ce poulain avait paru impressionnant lors de ses deux premières sorties. Son concurrent le plus direct paraissait être Beaumec de Houelle (Martaline), lui aussi invaincu. Et pourtant, ce n’est pas lui qui a mis fin à l’invincibilité du poulain de Jacques et Patrice Détré, mais celui que personne n’attendait : Porto Pollo (Manduro) ! Deuxième atout de François Nicolle, ce dernier faisait figure de Petit Poucet au départ de ce Groupe. Il a pourtant dominé sûrement le chouchou des parieurs, à savoir l’éblouissant Pic d’Orhy. Le représentant d’Antoine Bardini a longtemps galopé parmi les derniers dans une course menée bon train par Fakir d’Oudairies (Kapgarde). Ce dernier a commencé à donner des signes de fatigue dans le tournant final, perdant l’avantage au profit de Goliath du Berlais (Saint des Saints). Pendant ce temps-là, Pic d’Orhy se rapprochait avec des ressources et nul n’aurait pu prédire une telle issue de course. Porto Pollo est en effet venu facilement en dehors dans le tournant final. Son jockey, David Gallon, a commencé à le solliciter entre les deux dernières haies, et le futur vainqueur a sauté le dernier obstacle sur la même ligne que les deux favoris. Il a ensuite pris l’avantage facilement sur le plat, s’imposant d’une longueur et demie devant son compagnon d’entraînement. Beaumec de Houelle se classe troisième à une tête de Pic d’Orhy.

Un poulain invaincu, en quelque sorte… Porto Pollo enregistre donc le troisième succès de sa carrière en quatre sorties sur les obstacles, mais la première ne comptait pas vraiment puisqu’il était tombé à Angoulême… Ce qui est sûr, c’est qu’aucun cheval ne l’a devancé. François Nicolle nous a confié : « Je vous avoue que je suis un peu « sur le derrière »… J’avais dit que le jour où Pic d’Orhy serait battu, ce serait par un très, très bon cheval. Mais je ne pensais pas à celui-là ! Vraiment, je suis scotché. Porto Pollo courait à la base pour une troisième ou quatrième place, je ne le voyais pas devancer Pic d’Orhy ou même le poulain d’Arnaud Chaillé-Chaillé… Mais il avait déjà fait preuve d’une bonne pointe de vitesse et j’étais pressé de le voir se confronter aux meilleurs. Il a sauté la dernière haie en même temps que les deux autres, mais il a fini plus vite qu’eux. Il va aller en vacances maintenant avant de suivre la filière des bons en haies.

Quant à Pic d’Orhy, il n’a pas d’excuses. Il a eu un bon parcours et buvait du petit lait dans la ligne d’en face. C’est un grand poulain qui ne peut que bien vieillir. Il va rester en haies à l’automne, car je peux déjà compter sur Polirico (Cokoriko) en steeple. »

La forme de la casaque Bardini. Bien connu en Corse, où ses anglo-arabes sont toujours redoutables, Antoine Bardini réalise une très belle saison 2018 sur le Continent. C’est la première année que sa casaque apparaît sur les programmes d’obstacle. En plat, Sens du Rythme (Pedro the Great) s’est classé bon et proche troisième du Prix La Flèche (L). Porto Pollo lui offre ce samedi un premier succès au niveau Groupe. Antoine Bardini compte 28 chevaux à l’entraînement, dont 16 sur l’île de Beauté chez Daniel Ferir. Il est également présent dans l’effectif de François Nicolle (trois chevaux, dont deux anglo-arabes) et de Christophe Escuder (neuf chevaux). C’est chez ce dernier, en plat, que Porto Pollo a commencé sa carrière.

Beaumec de Houelle perd son invincibilité. Invaincu en deux sorties sur les haies, Beaumec de Houelle a connu sa première défaite dans ce Prix Aguado, mais sans démériter pour autant. Son entraîneur, Arnaud Chaillé-Chaillé, nous a expliqué : « Il a fait une petite faute, mais il court bien. Il est battu par deux poulains qui sont certainement très bons. Malheureusement, il a demandé à respirer au mauvais moment. »

Le neveu d’un lauréat de Gr2 en Allemagne. Porto Pollo a été élevé par Arnaud Coursin et Joël et Pierre Souchard. Présenté par le haras de Fergand, il a été adjugé 16.000 € à Christophe Escuder lors de la vente de yearlings Arqana, en octobre 2016. Son père, Manduro (Monsun), fait la monte au haras du Logis et Porto Pollo est son troisième gagnant de Groupe sur les obstacles, le premier en France. Il est le neveu de Stormont (Marju), vainqueur des Goldene Peitsche (Gr2), et de Stilett (Tirol), deuxième de la Coronation Cup (L) en Malaisie !

La troisième mère, Keep in Step (Dance in Time), a remporté le Prix de la Vallée d’Auge (L). Elle a donné Super Sheila (Last Tycoon), lauréate de la Star Sprint et deuxième des Alan Robertson Bloodline Championship (Grs1).
