Prix BELLE DE NUIT

THE YOUTH HIGHLIGHTED

Saturday 27 October 2018 -

Promoted to Gr3 this year, the Prix Belle de Nuit was won after a battle by Bartaba (Deep Impact). The 3-year-old filly stayed on a fifth place in the Qatar Prix Chaudenay (Gr2, 3.000m), where she had not run badly. Previously, she had placed second to Lillian Russell (Dubawi) in the Prix Jouvert (L, 2.800m). Today, the filly has set the record straight by winning by three quarters of a length over Klassique (Galileo), another 3-year-old. Against Rules (Aussie Rules) completed the podium, three-quarters of a length behind.

Options are still open for 4yos. Bartaba approached the front of the field at the entrance of the final turn. Supported along the rail, she drew a beautiful straight line and took the measure of Klassique near the post. Pierre-Yves Bureau, manager of Wertheimer & Frère’s interests, told us: “It’s great with a paper like hers to win a Group! She ran well and made good progress in her last races. In the Chaudenay, she had left us a little bit disappointed. She was far away but had made a good end of the race. Today, she had a great run, and fought hard until the end. We will think about her future at 4 years old. First we will enjoy this great victory.”

Klassique, still a bit green. Quickly at the controls of the race, Klassique made a sharp gap in the first turn. She got off to a good start as soon as the final phase began and didn’t let go until she hit the post. Maureen Haggas, wife of trainer William Haggas, explained about Klassique: “She’s run really well. It wasn’t ideal to make the running but there was no pace and Stephane found himself in front. She was a bit green in front and he wasn’t sure she quite stayed. She travelled really well and I don’t know whether she didn’t quite stay or that she was still very green. I think with a good winter on her back she might be a nice filly next year. There’s not much of her and she could do with thickening out a bit.”

Against Rules looking for another Listed. Against Rules is in her garden in Saint-Cloud. The mare galloped for a long time at the back of the field before accelerating in the middle of the field. She came to steal third place from Bhageerathi (Motivator), right at the end. Her trainer, Stéphane Wattel, told us: “I am very satisfied. Once again, she gives her best although she prefers heavy ground. We are still very happy with her. She takes a Group place and ends with a very nice action. The filly has been preserved for the end of the season. Even if the Groups are certainly finished for her, we will probably see her again in a Listed in the Val d’Or. But we’ll discuss it with the owner.”
